Worldwide Jam Parkour Workshops

We all know that one of the greatest things that you can do as an experienced traceur is go out and help to guide others using your own knowledge and past experiences. The folks over at Worldwide Jam have put together a couple of parkour workshops for folks to get to grips with parkour, or further their understanding of our discipline, under the guidance of experienced practitioners.

Andi

The main reason why I’ll be going (hopefully) is to glean some words of wisdom from Andi (“Geo” on our forums) who is visiting us from Austria to lead the workshops. Andi will be joined by none other than Kerbie and Daniel Ilabaca. :)

The Details

Worldwide JAM Parkour Workshops are open to all ability levels and provide an exhilarating experience especially for anyone wishing to get involved with the worlds fastest growing urban sport.

With the emphasis on safety, each workshop is conducted within the safe confines of a gymnasium. Students are expertly tutored by members of the Worldwide JAM ‘Street Team’ who have developed unique training programs that are fun, interactive and the first port of call for any would-be traceur.

The Rat Race 2006

Last year, Edinburgh Parkour was invited by the organisers of The Rat Race Adventure to introduce some of the ideas and concepts from the discipline of Parkour into the Edinburgh Rat Race.

We planned a fun and exiting Parkour inspired challenge for the Mean Streets Saturday evening event, at the new home of Edinburgh Parkour- Bristo Square. The challenge itself was simply an introduction into the type of environment and obstacles commonly used when we practice Parkour. We had the competitors follow a route around the square, climbing, vaulting and jumping over rails and walls in pursuit of several difficult to reach North Face promotional items. We also performed a short demonstration before the race start, where we exhibited some of the skills we’ve learned during our practice of Parkour.

Everyone taking part in the Mean Streets Prologue had a great time and it was so successful, we’ve been invited back to the approaching 2006 Edinburgh Rat Race to plan a new challenge based around Parkour.

This year will be different and we’ll be looking to expand upon the ideas used last year. We’re looking to extend some of the ethos of Parkour to the competitors and instead of being given a set route, they will be given a choice of paths to take and encouraged to take the most efficient and fastest in order to reach their goal.

We’re looking forward to sharing some of ideas behind Parkour with you and very much hope you enjoy the experience.
