Last week a group of parkour practitioners from Glasgow and Edinburgh got together to perform a demo for the BAA Youth Games Opening Ceremony. Charlie, Swifty and myself were representing Edinburgh while Grant, BJ and Scott were showing off the Glasgow skill base.

We managed to get it filmed in proper “pirate-movie-fashion” with people walking past and some blokes head blocking the action all the way through, lol!

Edinburgh Leisure also filmed the event (more proffessionally I suspect) although I’ve yet to receive a copy so you’ll have to make do with the following link

Hi folks,

As some of you may know, and all of you will know after reading this, the Forest Cafe is holding its second “Movement and Motives” event.

Here’s the info that I’ve been passed along:

Introduction

Hi, this friday we have the 2nd Edition of Movement & Motives @ the forest www.theforest.org.uk , the first event was jammed packed, and a beautiful crowd it was at that :). So we are opening the 2nd floor, so you can actually see each other and interact , in addition creating a larger space for the expanded performances

This Friday we have brought some content in from London and Barcelona, animated movies about Capoeira, fear & movement by Lewis Campbell, as well as a projected exhibition produced by an international collective of female artists curated by the well known Catalonian design agency Xnografics www.xnografics.com

We did not get around to too much parkour at the last event, however due to a mysterious incidental meeting on Bristo Square, we managed to get hold of the old school of the Edinburgh parkour and free runners scene; Edinburgh’s Traceurs www.ed-pk.com/, who will be presenting screenings of some of their parkour shorts filmed in Edinburgh.

The dance segment is expanding, and you can expect to see performances involving 6-9 artists per group. Mao No Chao Capoeira which is a slower free flowing form differing from the faster paced style performed by Senzala in December., Monica Deioanni is back with a larger group for her Contact Dance Improvisation segment and expect to see another solo from Grecian Constantina performing Tribal Belly dancing.

Musically we are mixing it up a little with an electric Folk Barouque set from David Howells, supported by Gemma on the violin (the University Orchestra). Later on in the night we are going to turn up the BPMs with a dance inducing electronica set from DJ Melvetronica www.melvitronica.com a master of his art. During which Chris Thompson will be mixing it up visually using film, animation, and digitised/canvas art.

During the night you will also be able to view the archive of rare and informative documentaries on subjects as diverse as climate change, the G8, stop the war down in the basement, where the chaps from Infoseed will have a bank of machines running for the night.

It’s been a long time since this place was updated but here we are. Firstly, I’d like to thank Jerome from Parkour.NET for uploading one of our all-time favourite ED-PK videos onto his popular Parkour Videos website. He doesn’t seem to have too much information about Tig 2 so I sent him an email with a quick overview of the details. For now, it’s listed as 2 Traceurs playing Tag game.

Secondly, it’s that time of year again. I’d just like to wish everyone in and around ED-PK a very happy holiday season and safe training in the cold, wind, rain, hail, snow… Make sure to burn off the calories from too many mince pies!

Cheerio,

We all know that one of the greatest things that you can do as an experienced traceur is go out and help to guide others using your own knowledge and past experiences. The folks over at Worldwide Jam have put together a couple of parkour workshops for folks to get to grips with parkour, or further their understanding of our discipline, under the guidance of experienced practitioners.

The main reason why I’ll be going (hopefully) is to glean some words of wisdom from Andi (”Geo” on our forums) who is visiting us from Austria to lead the workshops. Andi will be joined by none other than Kerbie and Daniel Ilabaca.

The Details

Worldwide JAM Parkour Workshops are open to all ability levels and provide an exhilarating experience especially for anyone wishing to get involved with the worlds fastest growing urban sport.

With the emphasis on safety, each workshop is conducted within the safe confines of a gymnasium. Students are expertly tutored by members of the Worldwide JAM ‘Street Team’ who have developed unique training programs that are fun, interactive and the first port of call for any would-be traceur.

Last year, Edinburgh Parkour was invited by the organisers of The Rat Race Adventure to introduce some of the ideas and concepts from the discipline of Parkour into the Edinburgh Rat Race.

We planned a fun and exiting Parkour inspired challenge for the Mean Streets Saturday evening event, at the new home of Edinburgh Parkour- Bristo Square. The challenge itself was simply an introduction into the type of environment and obstacles commonly used when we practice Parkour. We had the competitors follow a route around the square, climbing, vaulting and jumping over rails and walls in pursuit of several difficult to reach North Face promotional items. We also performed a short demonstration before the race start, where we exhibited some of the skills we’ve learned during our practice of Parkour.

Everyone taking part in the Mean Streets Prologue had a great time and it was so successful, we’ve been invited back to the approaching 2006 Edinburgh Rat Race to plan a new challenge based around Parkour.

This year will be different and we’ll be looking to expand upon the ideas used last year. We’re looking to extend some of the ethos of Parkour to the competitors and instead of being given a set route, they will be given a choice of paths to take and encouraged to take the most efficient and fastest in order to reach their goal.

We’re looking forward to sharing some of ideas behind Parkour with you and very much hope you enjoy the experience.

If you would like to take part in the Edinburgh Rat Race, or even the Bristol/Manchester race then please visit the Rat Race Adventure website at www.ratraceadventure.com.

Today is David Belle’s birthday (Happy 33rd David!) and for various reasons to be explained below, ED-PK and a whole host of other parkour websites/forums have closed down for the day… Parkour Day.

This initiative was spearheaded by Project Parkour and here is what they have to say about the event.

To all Traceurs out there - today is the Birthday of Parkours Inventor David
Belle, and we - the project Parkour - together with your internet community,
thought its a nice idea that to celebrate this day, we should all get off the
computers and go: TRAINING!

David Belle liked this Idea, here is a message personally from him for each one
of you:

“Hi to all tracers, today is my birthday and I’d really like to know that
you’re outside instead of chating. Does this sound a big challenge for you ?
Let’s go outside, sure you’ll progress more than talking about parkour.

Bye

DB “

This day is not only a celebration of Davids birthday, its also a demonstration
so that many that are on the internet very much will realize how much spare time
(wich could be used for example for training!) they have if they arent
constantly surfing the forums.

We hope you enjoy this day of training and wish you all a great progression and
that this inspires you and your training, and of course HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID
BELLE!!!

In the light of recent workshops held here in Edinburgh there are loads of new people interested in immersing themselves into the parkour and since today is such an ideal day for it, we’ve organised a huge jam for everyone to get out onto the streets and get training! Since the forums are closed for today, the details aren’t accessible… 12 noon at Bristo Square. Folks will be around Bristo from 11am so feel free to head out a little sooner!

So, to everyone in the Edinburgh Parkour community and those visiting us from further afield — enjoy the day and get out there! Godspeed.

Howdy folks,

Wow, just wow. A year ago today, I took the decision to pull together the few disparate groups of people practicing parkour in Edinburgh into one central “place to talk”. A place for traceurs, and those just wondering what this crazy thing we all do is really about, to come together and blabber. And boy, have we blabbered!

365 days, 185 registered members, over 10,900 forum posts and amazingly over 3,000,000 hits later we come to the Edinburgh Parkour of today. Through this website we’ve kept together as much more than a simple collection of folks practicing the same discipline - we’re a community. A community united through parkour.

To mark the occasion we’ll be out roaming the streets, doing our thing, on our birthday (Friday, March 24th 2006 for those reading this a little late!) from 5.30pm at the spiritual home of ED-PK, the Wellington Monument on Princes Street. For the those who want to celebrate a little earlier, we’ll also be out from 3pm (meeting at HMV, St James Center - just round the corner from the Welly) for a pre-celebration-jam jam. If this is too short notice for you there will also be a regular Saturday Jam the following day on Saturday the 25th at Bristo Square, meet at 12pm.

For those of you who can’t make it out on Friday, and the many visitors from further afield than our Edinburgh base, don’t feel left out! The mark this first anniversary, a number of our traceurs banded together to create a special wee video - something to remember the year by. The video contains a multitude of different traceurs (old and new) as well as various locations around our wonderful city of Edinburgh. We hope it will re-ignite your enthusiasm for Parkour and give you the drive to start getting out into the world and practising this most enjoyable of disciplines (or continuing to do so!).

The video runs for just under 5 minutes and is available in two sizes (for slower connections and big, fat ones):
Small Version
http://ed-pk.com/media/edinburgh-parkour-2005-2006-small.wmv (9.8MB)
Big Version
http://ed-pk.com/media/edinburgh-parkour-2005-2006-big.wmv (54.8MB)

Keep on moving folks and enjoy the video! Check out the forum topic if you want to chat about this amazing event.

Cheers,
Peter
