Wellington Monument

This spot is easily accessible. It’s on the East end of Princes Street almost directly opposite Waverley Train Station. It’s where most Edinburgh jams start. This place is the most popular hang out and you can draw some huge crowds.

Conditions

Can get a little slippery when wet but its still Pkable, just be careful. The walls are worn smooth with the Generations of previous Pkers jumping around here. It’s good for all times of day now the security have stopped harassing you. The ‘new’ spikes on the main walls are a bit of a distraction and please do not attempt to jump about near them, but the front walls seem ok to play on though watch out for moving blocks….

Plod

The police are generally fine with us acting like monkeys in this very public place. You’ll get the occasional “one word” (inside joke) officer, but generally they leave us alone. However, do not climb on the Wellington Monument itself. If you do, the 5-0 will appear from nowhere to have a stern word with you. You’re more likely to get hassled by drunks than the plod.

Supplies

We’re right beside Princes Street. Burger King is 20m away and the ‘One Pound’ shop is less than 50.

Watch your Back

Lots of people about so there’s generally no problems. However, check before you vault any wall onto the pavement. I repeat, CHECK before you do ANYTHING.

PK heaven

This place is perfect for learning the basics. A nice wall to learn all the major vaults. Precisions for all levels as well as a good place to learn tic-tacs and rail balancing. And it has got quite a bit for more advanced people as well. There’s even quite a bit to do while wet, just don’t try any huge precisions. More experienced traceurs can get a little bored after a while this spot can keep you entertained for a long time. Those white spikes prevent some of the old-school “runs” but still, plenty to play around with.

Overall

Brilliant place to start any jam but after your 5th straight hour it is possible to get bored. It’s not a place to spend an entire day unless you just want to drill the basics or thrive on getting attention from passers-by.

I’ve been watching quite a few Parkour and freerunning videos on google video and youtube recently and would like to congratulate anyone who takes up this sport.
When I was young, the ability to run, clear walls and railings, climb walls and fences and run along roof tops were survival skills which most kids had to learn if they wanted to escape the polis or not be beaten sensless by skinheads or bigger lads.
Obviously fitness levels have to be pretty high for this kind of thing, and upper and lower body strength is essential. Anything that gets young people out of their f*cking bedrooms and away from their Playstations has to be a bonus.
One thing I haven’t seen too many people do in Parkour videos is running down stairs. I remember me and my mates being chased down the steps which lead from Cockburn Street to Waverley Station one night…. it’s quite amazing the speed you can go when you think you’re going to get a kicking!!

parkour in scotland is highly limited but in my 4 years of parkour i have descoverd that parkour in a physical punishment
the more you do it the harder th punishment can get
when i first started i did not think much of the things that u need to be good at like good stanima and strenth parkour is a sport that is a risk when you take to the rooftops and highwalls and thin bars/fences parkour is becomen more popular
